Feeding Directions
For Late Gestation and Lactation
Alpacas – Feed at a rate of 1.0 lb/head/day for the last 4 weeks of gestation and 1.0 – 1.25 lb/head/day for lactation. Feeding rate depends on alpaca size (150 lb average), forage quality, body condition score, and level of milk production.
Llamas – Feed at a rate of 1.25 – 1.50 lb/head/day for the last 4 weeks of gestation and 1.50 to 1.75 lb/head/day for lactation. Feeding rate depends on llama size (300 lb average), forage quality, body condition score, and level of milk production.
The suggested feeding program is intended solely as a guide. The variables of management, environment, and breed may dictate changes in the animals’ requirements.
