TCF Wheat is a versatile whole grain that can be used as an energy source in properly balanced livestock rations or planted for grain, forage, cover crop and wildlife food plots.
Feeding Directions
Wheat is a high-energy grain and should be used as part of a properly balanced feeding program rather than as the sole feed.
For livestock, introduce wheat gradually and combine it with appropriate forage, protein, minerals and other ingredients needed to balance the ration. Avoid sudden changes or allowing animals unrestricted access to wheat.
Planting Wheat
For Michigan winter wheat, plant with a grain drill approximately ¾–1½ inches deep, with about 1 inch being a good target when adequate moisture is available. Good seed-to-soil contact and uniform planting depth are important for establishment.
Rather than advertising one fixed pounds-per-acre rate, wheat is more accurately planted according to seeds per acre, because seed size varies substantially. MSU's guidance uses target populations roughly in the 1.2–2.2 million seeds/acre range, with higher populations generally used as planting gets later.
For a simple 50-lb TCF bag customer guide, you could use:
Typical drilled rate: approximately 90–120 lb/acre
Late planting: increase the seeding rate as conditions require
Planting depth: ¾–1½ inches
Best depth under normal conditions: approximately 1 inch
