Kalmbach

Kalmbach History

Kalmbach Feeds was founded in 1963 by Milton and Ruth Kalmbach who shared a vision of a new way of doing business. Their goal was to design quality feed products, manufacture those products with the highest quality control procedures in the most efficient facility, and provide the product to the customer at the best possible value.

Kalmbach Feeds began as a grind and mix plant in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. Milton, a poultry nutritionist, saw that he could improve the quality of products and service by selling bulk feed by the truckload. Feed was able to be made and shipped much more efficiently this way—the customer received the highest quality feed at the best possible value. The staff included Milton and Ruth Kalmbach and one man to produce feed.

Today the plant produces a full line of products to meet the needs of every livestock producer - from the large commercial farm, the family hobby, the 4-H member and to the show competitor. Milton and Ruth’s son, Paul, continues to lead the family owned business while focusing on the initial founding goal. Kalmbach Feeds has grown to consist of over 250 employees.

We are now a regional leader in the animal nutrition industry serving Ohio and surrounding states while continuing to expand into Florida, New York and other regions. Our corporate office and original feed plant are still located in rural Upper Sandusky, and we have partner branches in Michigan (Kalmbach Feeds of Michigan) and Indiana (Kalmbach Feeds of Indiana).

Though the nature of the feed business has changed over the last 40+ years, Kalmbach Feeds' standards of quality and value haven't. The Kalmbach Family's traditional core values have provided a compass for the company's direction and success over the past four decades. We pride ourselves on our flexibility in meeting our customers' needs. We realize there are vast differences in the goals and needs of our customers who raise and care for livestock and poultry. No matter what the situation, we will work to find a solution that will help our customers succeed.

Product Diversity

Whether you're feeding general livestock, dairy, poultry, pets or equine feeds, we can provide you with the feed for your specific need. From supplements to complete feeds, pelleted or textured, bagged, bulk or tote, we offer the production and distribution flexibility most large organizations have eliminated. The product quality and consistency you expect will be found in each product we make from one of our own established brands to a private label manufactured for one of our valued partners.

Products are marketed through several channels, including direct to customer, traditional feed dealer networks such as farm cooperatives and independents, walk in customers, and through new retail partnerships, as well. We understand the importance of meeting our customers needs through product availability.

Quality Control

We are committed to utilizing the best technology in the feed business. Our quality control program starts with the unique practice of testing all incoming ingredients, allowing for more exact nutritional formulation. Checks and balances throughout our entire manufacturing process continues that dedication to providing you a superior product. Capital improvements such as our salmonella free product line, our new state of the art textured feed system featuring separate lines for medicated and nonmedicated feeds, provide just a snapshot of our commitment to making sure the feed your animal consumes is a product you can trust.

Kalmbach's continual quest for improving manufacturing efficiencies and technologies result in finished products difficult to duplicate in quality, consistency, and value. Computer controlled mixing and pelleting systems, patented technologies, and our manufacturing expertise and experience are key to our success in providing the products of high quality you demand.

Kalmbach Feeds and Tribute Equine Nutrition is committed to producing the highest quality animal nutritional products. Over the last fifty years, we have built our reputation on a simple promise: we will go the extra mile to ensure that our customers receive quality products that are safe for their animals to consume. To that end, we continually invest in world class technology and systems that are unique to our industry. Our manufacturing plants employ proprietary technology to ensure consistent, fresh product. We enforce quality systems that prevent cross-contamination of ingredients that benefit some species, but can be harmful or fatal to others. We are committed to producing our horse feeds to be free of ionophores such as Rumensin, Bovatec, and Coban.

We are HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) and Safe Feed/Safe Food Certified. These certifications go beyond FDA requirements to ensure that our products are safely produced and are safe for consumption.

We believe so strongly in the safety of our products, we put our Kalmbach family name on every bag we make.
